We are seeking a detail-oriented, data-driven professional to help elevate our pre-owned vehicle department.
The Pre-Owned Vehicle Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing the dealership’s entire used vehicle inventory lifecycle - from acquisition to retail readiness. This role ensures each vehicle is purchased correctly, evaluated for reconditioning needs, priced competitively, marketed effectively, and presented on the lot and online with excellence. Automotive experience is not required, but inventory management or analytical experience is highly preferred. We train for success! This is a critical operational role that directly impacts sales volume, profitability, and speed-to-market.
Inventory Acquisition & Management:
- Source and purchase pre-owned vehicle inventory through auctions, trades, wholesalers, and internal opportunities.
- Monitor vehicle market trends, pricing guides, and demand data to make informed buying decisions.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure vehicles flow through each step of the process promptly.
Vehicle Pricing & Market Strategy:
- Perform vehicle market analysis using tools such as vAuto, KBB, auction data, and competitive insights.
- Set vehicle retail pricing based on market trends, dealership strategy, and profitability goals.
- Adjust vehicle pricing proactively to maximize turn times and gross profit.
Reconditioning & Service Coordination:
- Work closely with the service department to determine required vehicle repairs and reconditioning needs.
- Track each vehicle through service, parts, body shop (if applicable), and recon/detail.
- Ensure timely completion of all vehicles reconditioning steps to minimize days-in-inventory.
- Communicate vehicle status updates to sales leadership in real time.
Marketing & Merchandising:
- Coordinate professional photos, descriptions, and online listings for all pre-owned vehicle units.
- Ensure all vehicles meet dealership merchandising standards—clean, photographed, priced, and displayed.
- Collaborate with management and marketing partners to optimize online vehicle visibility and lead generation.
Data & Performance Management:
- Review vehicle inventory reports daily and maintain target aging expectations.
- Monitor KPIs including turn rate, days-to-market, recon time, and gross performance.
- Provide leadership with weekly inventory status updates and recommendations.
Qualifications/Requirements – Pre-Owned Vehicle Inventory Manager:
- No automotive experience required - training provided.
- Inventory management experience preferred (retail, logistics, warehouse, purchasing, etc.).
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data-driven tools.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple vehicles moving through different stages of recon.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-departmentally.
- Self-motivated with the ability to operate independently and make sound decisions.
